Architectural metalwork in Èze and Menton

Across the steep terrain of the eastern Alpes-Maritimes, F. Labbé combines architectural metalwork, structural fabrication and mechanical experience to resolve both access and building details.

Local project conditions

Design around steep ground, terraces and difficult access.

In Èze, Menton, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and La Turbie, topography directly shapes the work. A gate may sit on a sloping road, a footbridge may cross a retained garden terrace, and a balustrade may have to follow several irregular levels.

Topographical information, existing walls, underground services, planting and construction access are considered together. For a footbridge or inclined lift, the shortest alignment is not necessarily the simplest to build or the most discreet within the landscape.

F. Labbé undertakes both architectural metalwork and specialist access projects on sloping sites. Our design office coordinates its package with masonry, civil engineering, landscape work and the other specialists involved.

Frequently commissioned

Metalwork developed for the building and its setting.

Inclined lifts

Inclined lifts for private villas, residential buildings and public sites, developed around the terrain, stations, cabin and architectural setting.

Metal footbridges

Purpose-designed steel and stainless-steel footbridges for villas, landscaped sites, buildings and public spaces.

Railings & balustrades

Bespoke balustrades, guardrails and handrails in steel, stainless steel, glass and wrought iron for terraces, stairs, balconies and pools.

Design office · Workshop · Installation

A method developed for steep Riviera sites.

The initial information normally includes the location, levels to be connected, photographs and, when available, a topographical survey. This allows the plausible routes and structural approaches to be compared.

The study then defines supports, foundations, structural sections, landing areas and access needed for installation and future maintenance. These decisions are resolved before components leave the workshop.

The metalwork is prepared in Nice and transported and assembled using a method suited to the terrain. Installation is coordinated with retaining structures, paths and landscape works.

Practical questions

Working with F. Labbé in this area.

Do you work on steep sites around Èze and Menton?

Yes. We study balustrades, footbridges, structures and inclined lifts shaped by the topographical constraints of the eastern Riviera.

Is a topographical survey required?

It is generally useful for footbridges and inclined lifts because it allows routes, levels and the necessary civil works to be assessed accurately.

Do you consider future maintenance access?

Yes. Access for installation, inspection and maintenance is incorporated from the design stage rather than added after construction.
