Motorised and moving metal structures by F. Labbé
Moving structures · F. Labbé project

The project

Designed for its setting, use and architecture.

When an architectural element moves, the structure, mechanism, controls and safety provisions have to be conceived together. The project begins with the movement required and the constraints of the building around it.

F. Labbé draws on long experience combining fabricated metalwork with mechanics, from rotating platforms to large moving glazed structures and bespoke pool installations.

What we resolve

The decisions that define the finished work.

Movement defined precisely

Travel, speed, stopping positions, loads and frequency of use are agreed before the mechanism is selected.

Structure and mechanism together

Frames, guides, drives and supports are developed as one coordinated system.

Safety integrated

Access, pinch points, controls, sensing and emergency operation are addressed during design.

Commissioned on site

The installation is tested, adjusted and documented in its real operating environment.

Applications

For private, professional and public projects.

Design and installation are adapted to the building, its users and the site conditions recorded during the survey.

Rotating vehicle platforms

Moving glazed walls and roofs

Pool floors and enclosures

Bespoke architectural mechanisms

Our involvement

From site survey to final handover.

Site information feeds into the fabrication drawings, then stays with the workshop and installation team.

  1. Functional brief

We define what must move, under which loads, how often and within which envelope.

  2. Mechanical design

Structure, guidance, drive, controls, safety devices and maintenance access are coordinated.

  3. Fabrication and trials

Components are manufactured and the key movements are tested before delivery where possible.

  4. Installation and commissioning

The system is assembled, adjusted, tested and handed over on site.

Frequently asked questions

Useful points before an initial assessment.

Do you make standard motorised products?+

Our work is primarily project-specific. We begin with the required movement and develop a suitable metal and mechanical solution.

Can you work with an architect’s concept?+

Yes. We translate the intended movement and appearance into buildable details while coordinating specialist components.

Do you maintain moving structures?+

Maintenance requirements are considered during design. The appropriate follow-up depends on the mechanism, use and regulatory context.

Your enquiry

Tell our team about the project.

We can begin with an architect’s package or a few straightforward details.

  • Location and approximate dimensions
  • Intended use and known constraints
